At least 10 traffic robbers have been arrested by operatives of the Lagos State Police Command in different parts of the state.
The suspects were arrested through the surveillance patrol strategy introduced by state commissioner of police, CP Zubairu Muazu to tackle the menace of traffic robbery in the state.
The Police Public Relation Officer (PPRO) for Lagos, DSP Elkana Bala, said the suspects who were arrested with firearms and ammunition, were caught at Ketu and Festac areas of the state.
Speaking on how seven of the robbers were arrested in Ketu, Bala said the suspects had attempted to snatch a Samsung phone when they were arrested.
“On May 24, 2019 at about 5 :30am, surveillance patrol team from Ketu police station, foiled a robbery attempt at Kosofe bus stop. The leader of the gang popularly known as Gabazine and two other members of the gang were arrested. One Samsung phone snatched from a victim was recovered and handed over to the owner.
“Similarly, on May 25, 2019, at about 12:05am, surveillance Patrol team deployed to Ketu bus stop, arrested two traffic robbery suspects. One pistol with three live ammunition and a jack knife were recovered from them.
“ On the same day, surveillance team on undercover operation at the same spot, arrested two traffic robbery suspects attempting to rob some unsuspecting road user. Two jack Knives and a toy pistol were recovered,” he said.
While commenting on how three robbers were arrested in Festac, the PPRO said the suspect were arrested by the surveillance patrol team, attached to Festac Police Station.
“ One locally made pistol with one live ammunition were recovered from the suspects, and Investigation is ongoing as all the suspects will be charged to court,” he stated.
