Police arraign Lagos socialite for perjury

The Lagos State Police Command has arraigned a socialite, Olusegun Ashogbon, before the state’s High Court, sitting in Igbosere, for perjury.

Ashogbon was arraigned before Magistrate O. O. Otitoju on one count of giving false information.

The police alleged that the 57-year-old gave false information against one Remi Louis.

According to the police, the Defendant committed the offence on November 12, 2015, around Are Avenue, off Sawyer Street, Dopemu area of the state.

The offence was said to contravened Section 85 and punishable under Section 86(1) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

Following the Defendant’s ‘not guilty’ plea, his counsel, Bagbenga Bamodu, urged the court to grant him bail on liberal terms.

Opposing the bail application, the Prosecutor, M. Aruna, noted that it took the police a long time to arrest the Defendant.

The Magistrate admitted the Defendant to bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum, adding that the sureties must present evidence of three years’ tax payment to the state government, means of livelihood and must be residents of the state.

Magistrate Otitoju adjourned the matter till November 4, 2019, for trial and ordered that the defendant be remanded in the Ikoyi Correctional Centre pending the perfection of his bail.
