Poland 2019: Where Aigbogun got it wrong-Ekwueme

By George Aluo
Poland based former Super Eagles midfielder, Ifeanyi Ekwueme has declared that the Flying Eagles would have fared better in the Poland 2019 FIFA U 20 World Cup if the team had a quality striker.
X raying the performance of the Paul Aigbogun tutored side in an exclusive chat with The Nigerian Xpress Sports, Ekwueme said the team was not as bad as it is being portrayed insisting that the problem they had was basically that of not having a quality striker.
“You don’t come to a tournament without a clinical finisher and expect to go far. The Flying Eagles I saw here in Poland wasn’t that bad, but I don’t know why the coach failed to see that he had no quality striker. If they had a good striker they would have done a lot better. You can see that against Senegal the attack was blunt. The Senegalese on the other hand had a striker who knew what to do in front of goal.”
Continuing Ekwueme said: “On the whole, the Flying Eagles disappointed Nigerians in Poland. This is a tournament in which Nigeria has done very well in the past. Nigerians in Poland expected a great Flying Eagles side given our record in the competition. This informed why we travelled over seven hours by train to cheer them,”.
The Flying Eagles Monday night crashed out of the tournament in the round of 16 after losing 1-2 to Senegal.
