By Andrew Ajijah

Reported theft of personal effects, particularly mobile phones and wallets, at the ongoing 2019 Jos Trade Fair, have assumed an alarming situation.

The Nigerian Xpress correspondent, in covering the Fair, was on ground last Friday and Sunday and uncovered that 20 phones were reportedly stolen, mostly from ladies in those two days.

Luck, however, ran out on two pickpockets who attempted searching a phone form a lady on her way out of the Fair ground, on Sunday, at about 9:00p.m. The pickpockets were apprehended by security operatives and given the beating of their lives.

The menace is happening in spite of heavy security presence at the Fair ground.

Commissioner of Police Plateau State  Command, Isaac Akinmoyede, during a parade of suspects, told journalists that Police would intensify patrol at the Trade Fair.

Another challenge confronting exhibitors and buyers as well as visitors to the Fair ground was the continuous rains in Jos.

As a result of the downpour, motorists were restricted from parking and plying to most parts of the Fair groun.

Buyers do experience difficulties in moving from one pavilion to another, there is a section at the trade fair that seem to have been deserted and abandoned by customers, but exhibitors still display their products.

Prices of goods at the Fair seemed not to have been different from the usual and regular markets.
