Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour party in the coming 2023 general elections has shared documents detailing how he rejected two plots of land allocated to him by the Anambra State Housing Development Commission, ASHDC, while serving as the governor of the state in 2007.

In one of the documents dated February 13, 2007,ASHDC had written a letter to Obi, who was then the governor of the state, offering to sell two plots of land to him located at Hill View Housing Estate, Nkwelle-Ezunaka. The management stated that the offer was in appreciation of his efforts as governor towards the realisation of the estate.

But in rejecting the offer, Peter Obi, in a letter dated May 8, 2007 and addressed to Mike Nwafor, the Managing Director of ASHDC, rejected the allocation , stating it would be unfair to use his position as the governor for undue advantage.

“I write to acknowledge receipts of your letters conveying the allocation of two plots of land, Plot 29/I.255 and plot 29/I. 254 at the Hill View Housing Estate Nkwelle-Ezunaka to me.
However as I have made abundantly clear, my being the governor is by the grace of God, and firmly believe it is wrong to benefit from that I became the governor because I wish to serve the people, and to do devotedly, I believe I have to distance myself from undue privileges of the office

Consequently as I thank you for your thoughtfulness, I wish to decline the allocation based on the reasons already adduced, ” the letter stated.
