Pay us N1m and we leave you alone, bandits tell Katsina village

Bandits have reportedly laid siege to Akata Village in Katsina State, imposing a blanket ransom of N1 million on the entire community or risk sudden attack.

According to those who are familiar with the issue, trouble started when the bandits stormed the village and rustled some animals.

The bandits were chased down and one of them was arrested and handed over to soldiers. Some of the animals were also recovered.

The bandits later sent a message to the village, asking them to raise N1 million or face imminent attack.

A newspaper report said the villagers have started collecting N1,500 per community member after the ransom was later reduced to N750,000 through intense negotiations with the bandits.

According to sources, the villagers live in fear as time is said to be running out.
