Panel beater, 35, docked over alleged theft of customer’s car parts

A 35-year-old panel beater, Seun Kehinde, who allegedly stole three catalysts of his customer’s Nissan Pathfinder Jeep, was on Monday brought before an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

The defendant, a resident of 30, Oyinlola Street, Iyana-Ipaja, Lagos State, was charged for stealing.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Prosecutor, Sgt. Kenrich Nomayo, told the court that the defendant stole three catalysts of Nissan Pathfinder Jeep worth N210,000 belonging to the defendant’s customer, Mr. Sunday Balogun.

Nomayo said that the defendant committed the offence on March 2.

He said the complainant gave his Pathfinder Jeep to the defendant for painting, but the defendant removed three catalysts of the said jeep worth N210,000.

“The complainant detected a foul play when he saw that the catalysts were removed and reported the case to the police,” he said.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. T.A. Ojo, granted the defendant N120,000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

Ojo said the sureties must be gainfully employed with an evidence of two years tax payment to the Lagos State Government and have their addresses verified by the court.

The offence contravened Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

NAN reports that Section 287 of the law stipulates three years jail term for offender.

The case was adjourned until April 10 for mention. (NAN)
