Ozurumba blasts Heartland management

Faults threat to place players on half pay

By George Aluo

Former winger of Heartland FC of Owerri, Chibuzor Ozurumba, has berated the management of the club for threatening to place her players on half salary over the team’s poor run this term in the NPFL.

Ozurumba in a telephone chat with The Nigerian Xpress Sports from Owerri said as one who knows what is happening in the club, the management is to blame for the club’s poor run and not the players they are now trying to punish.

It would be noted that Heartland management had in a release made available to the media over the weekend said the players would be placed on half salary should they fail to win their next three games.

“It is a shame that the management is threatening to place the players on half salary when they (management) are the architects of the club’s problem. They went for players, who can’t deliver. Players that they signed on sentiment. When you sign players based on the sentiment of “he is my candidate”, you won’t get result and that is what is happening to Heartland. The management should just resign before they plunge the club into relegation,” Ozurumba said.

Ozurumba who won the CAF champions league with Enyimba said those running Heartland were only interested in making money out of the club, a situation that has seen the club doing badly in the last two seasons.

“Last term, it was the crisis in Nigerian football that saved the club from relegation. This term, I m afraid there is no hiding place for the team. It would be unfortunate if this present management take the club down. Imo people won’t forgive them because given what they get from government, the club shouldn’t be struggling. The problem of Heartland is not money but greed on the part of those running the club,” Ozurumba said.

Heartland in their last home game lost 1-2 to Akwa United. They are now in the relegation zone on the league log.

The management over the weekend pressed the panic button with the threat to place the players on half salary if they fail to return the club to winning ways.
