Osun guber re-run election: PDP, APC woo Omisore

The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) are wooing the candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore for support ahead of Thursday’s governorship re-run election.

Senate President Dr Bukola Saraki led some PDP senators including Biodun Olujimi (Ekiti East), Rafiu Ibrahim (Kwara South) and Dr Doyin Okupe to meet Omisore at his country home in Ile-Ife on Monday.

Also at the meeting were SDP chieftains, Dr Yemi Farounbi; former minister of Police Affairs, Alhaji Jelili Adesiyan and Chief Sogo Agboola.

The meeting, which was held behind closed doors, lasted a couple of hours.

It was gathered the PDP was negotiating with Omisore to back the PDP governorship candidate, Senator Ademola Adeleke during the election re-run.

Speaking after the meeting, Senator Saraki described it as successful. “I was here to meet with distinguished Senator Iyiola Omisore to seek his support for the PDP in the Thursday’s governorship re-run election in Osun State, and we thank God the meeting was successful.”

When asked of the response of Omisore to his request, Saraki said, “the meeting was highly successful and promising. That is why you see us laughing together after the meeting. I can assure you that the meeting was promising and it will help Osun State.”

“It was a promising meeting for Osun State and we do hope that the outcome of the meeting will help democracy and help Osun State,” Saraki, a PDP presidential aspirant, said.

However, Omisore disclosed that he had not given his word on whether he would work for the PDP in the re-run election.

“We have our own action plan in the SDP. The APC has come to us, so also the PDP. We are yet to take any decision on the matter. When the decision is taken we will let you know,” Omisore said.
