Orji Kalu tasks FG on Aba infrastructure, says city can produce anything made in China

The former governor of Abia State and now Senate Chief Whip, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, has tasked the Federal Government with the need to provide Aba City, the commercial hub of Abia State with proper infrastructure to thrive.

Kalu, who spoke at the eighth edition of the Made-in-Aba Trade Fair noted that provision of needed infrastructure would enhance the productivity of local manufacturers, adding that Aba could manufacture anything made in China, including cars.

He lauded the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency, SMEDAN, and sponsor of the exhibition, Sen. Enyinnaya Abaribe, and suggested that it should make an annual event.

On his part, Abaribe, who represents Abia-South Senatorial District, and is also the minority leader, insisted that products made in Aba were of superior quality and could withstand competition from foreign products.

Senate President Ahmad Lawan, who was represented by the Chairman, Senate Committee on Industry, Tokunbo Abiru,  pledged the National Assembly’s support to foster an enabling environment to promote creativity, insisting that local manufacturing held the key to the industrial revolution that is necessary force economic prosperity that Nigeria deserves.

However, according to the SMEDAN DG, Dikko Radda: “There is no better time than now for the indigenes of Abia to leverage on government intervention programmes to enhance their products and services, especially in the areas where they have a comparative and competitive advantage.”
