OPINION: Imo North’s incoming senator, Ibezim determined, focused

By Jim Isilebo

Over the past fortnight, the Victory Train Campaign of Sir Frank Ibezim has traversed all 64 electoral wards, comprising almost 700 polling units (booths), meandering the nooks and crannies, hill and valleys, and some of the most difficult and unimaginable terrains of Okigwe Senatorial Zone.

We have met and consequently felt the pulse of some of our kith and kin, tucked away in some of the remotest parts of our senatorial constituency, with whom, ordinarily, we may not have the opportunity of getting in contact with.

We have undertaken a fair appraisal of the needs and daunting challenges associated with most of these visited communities, more so, identifying some of their general and peculiar challenges.

We have realised that beyond the conventional, trite and hackneyed rhetoric of the typical Nigerian politician, who usually claims to be the antidote to myriads of executive, legislative and judicial problems in our polity.

Sir Frank Ibezim will honestly look at these seemingly overwhelming challenges with a view of dispassionately addressing them within the ambits of his expected mandate,  whenever INEC decides to conduct the senatorial bye-election for our zone.

It’s quite painful listening to inhabitants of these remote communities reeling out their basic needs which, of course, are their rights (especially provision of basic infrastructures), stemming from several decades of abandonment by successive governments, heaping their hopes of  getting succour on the laps of a senatorial candidate, whose jobs as a legislator are clearly spelt out in our constitution.

However, the sole solace one identifies in this whole narrative, viz-a-viz Sir Framk Ibezim’s expected emergence, as the next Senator for Imo North Senatorial District, is that he will strive to latch on the beckoning synergy between himself, as the next senator of the zone, and the executive arms of the government at both local, state and federal strata of government (ably represented by the  APC functionaries all all these levels) to actualise some of the candid promises he has made in the course of this tour. This can be a seamless cooperation, if well outlined, and definitely a win-win scenario for Okigwe Zone.

In virtually all our campaign stops, Frank Ibezim always enthused that he wants to be the best senator of Okigwe extraction, and I have no doubt in my mind that he means it and will, therefore, walk his talk by the special grace of God.

The Frank Ibezim, I know is not a man given to needless distractions or proverbially throwing stones at every dog that barks at him on a  journey, hence he was focused all through this first phase of our campaign and NEVER FOR ONCE, in his messages mentioned any of the opposition candidates by name, or made any innuendos disparaging them, as against some of our opponents, who chose the contrary, leaving out the core issues bedevelling our zone and people. It’s all signs of maturity, as one does not give what he doesn’t have.

As we observe the recently announced postponement of the scheduled election by INEC, from “Force Majure”,  following the unfortunate developments in the country over the past weeks, we enjoin all our numerous compatriots, allies, supporters, highly enthusiastic and diehard followership, who were encountered in the field, to keep their feet on the throttle, as we accelerate towards the touchline of ultimate victory, whenever the election is called.

While waiting for the commencement of the local government tours, coming up sooner than later, we should vigorously embark on our door2door and person2person reachout to all  registered voters in the zone, who are partners in the expected progress.

Finally, we thank the Almighty God, who saw us through the first phase of the VictoryTrain movement, without any mishap, injury or fatality, despite the very challenging and difficult roads traversed. We thank our numerous supporters, who daily thronged out en masse to join in the tours; some, with their personal vehicles, and the majority, who couldn’t be accommodated on the trips due to dearth of space.

The awesomeness of God’s unconditional grace will surely see us through the rest of the journey of Grace, in Jesus matchless name, Amen.
