Veteran coach, Loveday Omoruyi, has thrown his weight behind the plan by the nation’s soccer governing body, NFF, to sack all non-performing coaches of the various national teams.

The NFF, early this week after a meeting with the Sports Minister, announced that it would soon review the performance of all the national team coaches to determine why their teams performed poorly at international competitions recently and anyone found culpable would be relieved of his position.

Going by the statement, Flying Eagles coach, Paul Aigbogun, the Falcons interim coach, Christopher Danjuma, U-23 head coach, Imama Amapakabo, and the Golden Eaglets coach, Manu Garba, may be relieved of their jobs.

Omoruyi told The Nigerian Xpress Sports that since the NFF is their employer and knowing fully well that they’ve not delivered on their assignment, the football house reserved the right to either retain or sack them.

“Everybody knows that the job of a coach is all about hiring and firing. When you’re achieving result, your job will be safe but once the result is not coming, you will be dispensed with,” began the former Julius Berger and Gateway of Abeokuta gaffer.

“The coaches should by now have known that the game is up considering the body language of the football house, so their sack when announced should not come to them as a surprise because, I know by now, the technical Committee of the NFF must have either submitted their report or about to do that,” stressed the ex-international.

Omoruyi however advised the NFF that they must look inwards for good replacements and not employ mediocre or use quota system because that will cause more damage to the country’s football.

“What I want the NFF to do is to be transparent and if possible advertise the positions in the national dailies so that many good coaches in the country’s league can apply and undergo vigorous Interview before being considered for any of the national team jobs.

“In doing this, they must avoid quota system because you can never get the best from such a process. The best hands must be engaged to handle the teams if we want to get result. It’s also important that those appointed must have contact with the football house as this will ensure job security and make the coaches put in their best because experience has shown that when a coach is operating without a contract, his dedication will be suspect,” concluded the one time handler of Insurance of Benin, Jasper United and Plateau United.
