Olusosun landfill, Ojota, to be shutdown for 48hrs

Olusosun landfill, Ojota, the biggest refuse dumpsite in Lagos would be shut down for 48hours, according to a statement from the Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA).

Signed by the agency’s Director, Public  Affairs, Folashade Kadiri, the statement the  shutdown would enable the authority carry out palliative works on the dumpsite, for seamless waste management operations.

“The Authority in bid to ensure that waste management operations at Olusosun dumpsite is effectively delivered, will shut down the landfill for a period of 48 hours, starting from 10th November, 2021,” the statement stated.

 

In order to cushion effects the brief shutdown of Olusosun would have on the PSP operators, the statement stated government has provided  alternative dumpsites, where waste collection trucks could dispose of their refuse, during the period of temporary closure.

Some of the alternatives dumpsite are Solous dumpsite, Igando, for PSP operators on mainland Igando; while those operating in the East District and Ikorodu, had been directed to dispose of their wastes at Epe dumpsite.
