The Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Saliu Akanmu Adetunji, Aje Ogungunniso 1, has summoned an emergency meeting of all family heads in the areas affected by the recent violent clash.

The meeting is scheduled for the Olubadan’s Popoyemoja palace, on Tuesday, at noon.

The Mogaji and Baale expected at the palace, on Tuesday, include those whose family compounds fall within Oja’gbo, Beyerunka, Labiran, Idi Arere/Asuni, Asaka, Isale Osi, Oopo Yeosa and Olorisa Oko areas of Ibadan.

Oba Adetunji gave the hint of his proposed emergency meeting with family heads of the affected areas while receiving members of the National Council of Muslim Youths (NACOMY) led by Sheikh Daud Afolabi to his palace, on Sunday.

Some shops and residential buildings in Idi Arere area of Ibadan were looted and set ablaze by some arsonists who invaded the area during a fight with a rival gang.

The First Class monarch, in a press statement signed by his  Director of  Media  and Public Affairs , Adeola Oloko, said the nefarious activities of the street urchins in some areas of Ibadan were becoming worrisome in recent times and the need to contain it through collective effort had become imperative.

Oba Adetunji, who sympathised with the victims of arson and looting, noted that the security of lives and properties was not only the responsibility of law enforcement agents but of all and sundry.

He also reasoned that as the 2019 general elections are fast approaching, it was important for all family heads in Ibadan, who noticed anything strange in their domains, to promptly report the matter to the Police for appropriate action, particularly those who have formed the habit of tearing other candidates’ posters and banners to prevent a breakdown of law and order.

Responding, the Coordinator of NACOMYO in the state, Daud Afolabi hailed the Olubadan for the integrity that he has brought to bear in his official conduct.

He stated further that NACOMYO would continue to pray for the monarch to live long in the throne.

The NACOMYO team later prayed for peace and stability of Oyo State in particular and Nigeria in general as the 2019 general elections draw near.
