Okada ban: Lagos govt adds 4 LGAs and LCDAs to list of restricted areas

Lagos State government has announced the ban on the operation of commercial motorcyclists popularly known as Okada in additional four local governments and local council development areas.

The ban is Phase 2 of the plan by the state government to gradually phase out okada in the state and commences on September 1 2022

Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Fredrick Oladeinde announced the ban on Thursday at a press briefing in Alausa, Ikeja.

The four local governments are Kosofe, Oshodi-Isolo, Mushin and Somolu. The Local Council Development Areas, LCDAs are Ejigbo, Odi-Olowo, Ikosi-Isheri, Agboyi-Ketu and Bariga.

The Commissioner said all law enforcement agencies such as the Anti-Okada Squad, the Police, the Army, Navy, Airforce and other security agencies have been mandated to enforce the ban.

He warned that any Okada impounded will be crushed while the rider and the passengers would be arrested and prosecuted.

The Commissioner urged Lagosians to support the government’s efforts at eradicating the menace created by Okada.

It is recalled the state government had, early this year, banned Okada in Six local governments. They were Surulere, Ikeja, Lagos Mainland, Apapa, Eti-Osa and Lagos Island.
