Ogun increases health workers’ hazard allowance

Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State has bowed to the pressure of Resident Doctors in the state over Hazard Allowance and life insurance packages.

The ARD at the Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital, Sagamu had, last week commenced a three-day warning strike to press home the demand for hazard allowance and life insurance packages.

Governor Abiodun, in a statement, on Saturday, by his Chief Press Secretary, Kunle Somorin, said the hazard allowances of health workers in the state has been raised from 200 to 300 percent.

The statement read in part, “I want to inform you that we have put in place life policy for our health workers. We would have started immediately, but we will wait to go along with the Federal Government which is also planning similar programme.

“This pandemic is a surprise to everybody. This happened just as we were beginning to roll out plans for a total reform of our health facilities beginning with 236 Primary Health Care Centres. However, I want to assure you that this government is determined to ensure the provision of adequate health care for our people.”
