Ogun Govt. to spend N52.36bn on road construction, rehabilitation

The Ogun government says it will spend N52. 36billion on the provision of additional durable asphalt roads and rehabilitation in the state in 2020.

Mr Ade Akinsanya,  the Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Works and Infrastructure, disclosed this on Monday in Abeokuta while defending the 2020 budget proposal of the Ministry of Works  before members of Ogun assembly Committee on Finance and Appropriation.

Akinsanya noted that it was important to achieve more integrated and sustainable road network to further open up the state for investment opportunities .

The special adviser added that the ministry had earmarked N2.26billion as recurrent expenditure while capital expenditure would gulp N55.16billion for the 2020 fiscal year.

He explained that the ministry proposed N57.42billion as total expenditure for 2020, saying that the ministry had proposed to generate N2.3billion as IGR.

Akinsanya noted that the ministry had earmarked N1.2billion for the purchase of fire fighting equipment while N850million would be spent to provide compensation for residents whose properties were affected by  road construction.

He reiterated that the main objective of the 2020 budget was to complete ongoing road projects across the state .

” In order to ensure that standard roads are present in all the geopolitical zone of the state,  new road construction will be initiated, ” he said.

Responding,  Mr Abayomi Fasuwa,  Chairman,  House committee on Works and Infrastructure,  charged the ministry to prioritise road projects and put the people’s need into consideration. (NAN)
