Obiano condemns political thuggery, killings, vote-buying

Governor Willie Obiano of Anambra State has condemned, in concrete terms, what he termed ‘high incidences’ of political thuggery, killings, vote buying and other societal ills associated with the nation’s electoral processes.
Speaking at the launching of a book entitled: ‘Political Alignment in Nigerian Politics’, written by Evangelist Anayo Udeogu.
The governor, who was represented by Pastor Chris Ileku of the state’s Ministry of Works and Urban Planning, also decried the poor state of the nation’s political exercise.
The governor, therefore, urged politicians to always eschew tolerance by not seeing politics as a do-or-die affair as such conduct was capable of throwing the nation into anarchy whereby poor masses would be the worst hit by such development.
He, however, advised politicians to always seek redress in the law courts whenever they feel cheated rather than taking laws into their hands by causing mayhem which is detrimental to both the democratisation process and national growth.

Earlier, in his opening remarks, the author of the book, Evangelist Udeogu, had explained that the 42-page book, which has 20 inspiring chapters, was seeking to redress the political imbalance and quagmire which have retarded development in the Nigerian state.
Udeogu further stated that the book would enhance avenues aimed at mobilising the Nigerian youths and at the same time, promote peaceful campaigns and encourage voting by merit.
According to him, the book was equally seeking a way of mobilising the youths to register in order to vote and also to be voted for, as well as to create a platform for candidates to vote interactions and monitoring of the electoral process, thus partnering or rather assisting the relevant bodies, in visiting polling centers during election times, to ensure a credible electoral process.
He further noted that the book is also seeking to reduce youth indifference to electoral processes, to discourage vote buying and ensure voters’ interaction with the candidates, adding that it further intends an avenue for creating a level playing ground for all political contestants in a particular dispensation.
Among the dignitaries that graced the event were the representatives of Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe, the Obi of Onitsha, Captains of industries and the Clergy.
