NYSC coordinator lauds Abia community for building ‘koppa’s lodge’

Mrs. Francesca Ifon, the Abia State Coordinator of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC), has commended the Ugbogu Age Grade, Idima Abam in Arochukwu Local Government Area of the state, for building and donating a ‘Koppa’s lodge’ to the scheme.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the commendation was contained in a statement issued in Umuahia on Thursday by Mr. Omaka Nnachi, the Public Relations Officer of NYSC in Abia state.
Ifon was said to have made the commendation during the inauguration of the five-bedroom bungalow, which had a central palour, kitchen and store.
She reportedly expressed joy over the gesture and thanked the group for embarking on the project.
She said that the initiative would encourage NYSC to post more corps members to the community.
While congratulating the age grade for its magnanimity, she appealed to it to assist in constructing a perimeter fence for the building.

She said that the security of corps members was always the priority of NYSC, hence corps members would not be allowed to move into the building until it was fenced.
In his address of welcome, the chairman of the age grade, Chief Michael Okorie, assured NYSC of the community’s readiness to take good care of all corps members posted to the area.
Okorie said that a majority of the teaching staff in the community’s school were NYSC members, hence the resolve by the group to build the lodge.
Mr. Samson Uduma, the Chairman of the occasion, decried the rate at which regular teachers posted to most public schools in rural communities abandoned their duty posts for personal businesses.
According to him, they leave the teaching job for corps members, who are not permanent staff.
He assured the NYSC coordinator of the community’s preparedness to commence the perimeter fencing of the lodge as soon as possible. (NAN)
