NURTW boss’ murder: Dolapo Oni denies involvement in Mile 12 fracas, threatens legal action

A Lagos Island-based property consultant, Dolapo Oni, popularly known as ‘Dolly Pizzle’ has denied involvement in the murder of the Chairman of Mile 12 branch of National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW),  Sulaimon Lawal, who was murdered by some cultists under Mile 12 bridge.

His denial followed an interview granted to the press  by the younger brother to the deceased, Mustapha Lawal, accusing Dolapo of being among those who witnessed  the murder of his brother.

In a letter written by his lawyer, Rotimi Oduba, titled ‘Demand for immediate retraction of defamation statement and slanderous comments made against Mr Dolapo Oni’ and addressed to Mustapha Lawal, Dolapo explained that he was not at the scene of the incident and denied having  knowledge of the murder of the victim.

Dolapo further explained he had never come in contact with the victim and was not a regular visitor to Mile 12 since he’s based on the Lagos Island where he does his business.

He added his attention was called to the allegation by his friends and family members who started calling him to ascertain the truthfulness of his involvement in the murder.

He accused Mustapha of attempting to tarnish his image, adding the allegation has caused him and his family trauma as many people now see him as a murderer and tout.

He, therefore, demanded a retraction of the allegation as well as a public apology ,and  threatened legal action against Mustapha.

“On or about 28th August 2022, you granted an interview falsely stating that our client was among a group of hoodlums who witnessed the killing of one Mr Suleman Lawal, who until his death, headed Branch A of the Lagos State Parking Arrangement Authority stationed under the Mile 12 Bridge, Lagos. The said interview has since been making its rounds on the internet and various social media platforms.

During the said interview, you amongst other things, falsely stated that our client would on some occasions brazenly publicly wield a handgun threatening members of the public and stating that nothing can be done to him and that if he is arrested, he will bail himself. These sets of facts you know are false but yet chose to put out to the public with the sole aim of disparaging our client’s character and tarnishing his image in the eye of the public, ” the letter stated.

The letter added the allegation has exposed Dolapo ‘to hatred, contempt and ridicule, as well as ’caused his current employers and prospective employers to now perceive him in a different light.’

He is demanding for a retraction of the allegation failure of which he threatened a legal redress and damages against Mustapha to the tune of N250million
