The Gender Unit of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos State Command, has arrested a 48-year-old man, Mr. Charles Ekwe, for allegedly defiling his 13-year-old girl (name withheld).

It was learnt that the survivor, a niece to Ekwe’s wife, lived with them at their No.1B Surulere Street, Ojo, Lagos State home.

The suspect allegedly started having unlawful carnal knowledge of the girl early in the year, exposing her to pornography and threatened to kill her if she told her Aunty.

The victim’s aunt, Mrs. Blessing Ekwe, later discovered the cruel act and alerted officials of NSCDC around the area.

Mrs. Ekwe said, “My niece have been living with me for the past four years after the death of her father. I noticed something was wrong three weeks ago which prompted me to interrogate the girl.

“She opened up and told me that my husband  has been sexually abusing her. To confirm what she told me, I took her for medical examination and it was confirmed that she had been defiled.”

The survivor, in her narration, said her uncle who she calls ‘daddy’, often exploited her sexually,  whenever her aunty leaves the house and also at his shop where she goes to help out most times.

According to the girl, “He exposed me to pornography on his phone and had threatened to kill me if I tell anybody. I cannot count the numner of times he did it,” she said amidst tears.

Speaking on the incident, NSCDC Commandant in Lagos State, Mr. Ayeni Paul, said the suspect admitted to committing the crime but insisted he only fondled her genitals and made her watch pornography on his phone.

The Commandant, while addressing the press said, ” The suspect will face the full wrath of the law and will be handed over to the appropriate agency for further investigation and prosecution.”

Reiterating the corps readiness to combat crime in the state, the commandant said the corps will not rest on its oars in ensuring a crime free Lagos.

He also said the Gender Unit of the Corps which is saddled with the responsibility of handling rape, domestic violence, sexual assault, defilement as well as child abuse cases, has well trained officers to handle such cases and enjoined the populace to feel free to make such reports
