Anthony Iwuoma

The head of Nigeria’s Diaspora Commission, Abike Dabiri, has said the
Nigerian woman, who was put up for sale on Facebook in Lebanon has shunned plans to return home.

A Lebanese man had listed the woman for sale at $1,000 before the Lebanese authorities rescued and took her to the Nigerian mission in Beirut.

The advert had raised dust in Nigeria, leading to the arrest of the suspected advertiser.

However, the 30-year-old Oyo State indigene has refused to return home, claiming to have got another job in Lebanon.

Dabiri-Erewa said all efforts to convince the woman to return home failed.

She said: “Even the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) of Oyo State, where she is from, spoke to her. We just hope that Nigerians going to work in Lebanon will be properly treated and not treated as slaves.”
