Nigeria, Israel sign agreement on drug regulation

As part of efforts to scale up the regulation of Medicinal products and collaborations in the health sector, Nigeria and Isreal have signed an agreement that will help to facilitate exchange of information between the two countries.

The agreement was signed by the National Agency for Foods and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) and the Israeli’s Ministry of Health, at the opening of a three-day capacity building on Sterilization and Pharmacovigilance, for NAFDAC senior staff in Lagos.

The Director General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye said the essence of the programme was to further equipped participants with new idea in the area of Pharmacovigilance and safety of drugs.

It is also to strengthen  them in the area of drug counterfeits, monitoring and tracking of substandard medicines in the country.

The Commissioner for Health, Dr. Jide Idris believed that with the partnership, the Ministry would achieve more in the area of safety of consumers and impact positively on public health

In his address, the ambassador of the State of Isreal, Mr. Shimon Ben-Shoshan, explained that part of the agreement was to offer training using the global experience and expertise of a leading pharmaceutical company in Israel.

The Director General of the leading Pharmaceutical company, Mr RobBrennik Meijer however observed that the  company has a vital role to play in achieving drug safety of the nation.

The programme had in attendance over one hundred participants drawn from the six geo-political zones of the country.
