NGO advocates accountability, integrity in public service

Accountability Lab Nigeria, an NGO, has advocated accountability and integrity in public service to ensure entrenchment of good governance.

The group’s Country Representative, Mr Odey Friday made the call in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Thursday.

He said that the level of corruption in the country was quite high, adding that the menace had affected all humans.

“It affects everybody. As long as it affects a woman who can’t access health care, it affects all of us,” he said.

He said that there was the need to report and maintain the truth at all times to make the society corruption-free.

According to him, Accountability Lab is a global organisation registered in Washington DC.

He noted that the Nigerian office of the NGO was established in 2017 aimed at working with people in the fight corruption.

“We try to make it exciting for people to get interested in the corruption fight.

“One of our programmes is Integrity Idol, set up to name and fame honest government officials.

“We are looking for honest people working for government; people who are doing things on their job to translate good governance to the people.”

Friday said that it was time to change the narrative about corruption in Nigeria and name and fame honest government officials.

He said that the organisation was collaborating with Independent Corrupt Practices and other related Offences Commission (ICPC) to have background checks for persons nominated to become integrity idol.

Friday further said that the team had being having couple of meetings with private and public schools, to educate students on integrity. (NAN)
