NBC grants TV license to Bayero University Kano

The National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) has granted a Direct Satellite Broadcast (DSB) licence to Bayero University, Kano (BUK).

The was made known on Tuesday in Abuja when the Vice Chancellor (VC) of BUK, Prof. Mohammed Bello and his team paid a courtesy visit to the Director-General of NBC, Malam Is’haq Kawu.

Receiving the delegation, Kawu noted that the Commission had a tremendous partnership with the university.

He said that the broadcast licence would allow the institution set up its own television station as well as offer an opportunity for the training of students in Television Broadcasting.

In his response, Bello expressed appreciation to Kawu and the management of the commission for the TV licence granted to the university.

He said that the TV licence issued to the institution could not have come at a better time, given the unbundling of the Mass Communication programme of the institution.

The BUK VC further noted that the licence would be used for the training of students in the area of investigative journalism and broadcasting in general.

“It will also afford the students the opportunity to practice.

“I want to assure NBC boss and the management that the institution will use the licence properly in accordance to the laid down rules of the Nigeria Broadcasting Code.

“Also, We will use it for the good and betterment of the broadcasting industry as well as the development of Nigeria,” Bello said.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the high point of the event was the official presentation of the license to the Bello.

NAN also reports that the university’s registrar, Hajia Binta Mohammed and the Dean, School of Postgraduate Studies, Prof. Umar Pate were among the delegation to the NBC. (NAN)
