The Nasarawa State Government will soon embark on training of primary school teachers, in its bid to uplift the standard of education in the state.
Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, disclosed this while delivering a speech on the occasion of the inauguration of the Chairman and members of the governing council of the College of Education Akwanga, on Thursday.
According to the Governor, a train-the-trainer programme for primary school teachers will commence before the end of September, being part of the recommendations of a technical committee that recently carried out a baseline survey of schools across the state.
While reiterating the commitment of his administration towards ensuring that children in primary schools access quality education as foundation for higher education, Engineer Sule stressed the need for competent teachers, as well as a review of primary school curriculum.
“This administration is determined to ensure that at least, in the primary school level, we pass onto our children an excellent foundation, so that they can start up from there,” he stated.
In this regard, the Governor urged the chairman and members of the governing council of the College of Education Akwanga, on the task ahead of them, especially that the institution will produce the kind of teachers required by the state, in line with the educational policy, philosophy and vision of his administration.
Recall that Engineer Sule, while receiving the report of the baseline survey from the technical committee headed by Professor Mohammed Isa Kida, vowed to uplift the standard of education in the state, adding that God will not forgive him, if after realising the inherent decay, he leaves office without doing anything.
Also recall that the technical committee, which undertook a survey of 1391 primary schools across the 13 local government areas of the state, disclosed that a large percentage of primary school teachers require training to be able to fit into the vision of the state government for education.
