Zenith Bank branches in the Lekki/Ajah axis of Lagos hurriedly closed shop on Monday following unconfirmed attacks on two of the branches.
Irate bank customers angered by the frustrations of both the nonavailability of the new redesigned Naira notes, the new cash withdrawal limits rules, as well as largely nonfunctional Automated Teller Machines (ATM) had swooped on the bank branches earlier Monday morning.
The situation was further compounded by the seeming collapse of the bank’s internet network, which also made it almost impossible for customers to carry out internet and online banking activities as well.
When The Nigerian Xpress visited two of the branches along the Lekki/Epe Expressway, both outlets were firmly under lock and key, with a handful of security personnel on the ground. Although there were long queues of people at the ATM gallery of one of the branches, none of them could access the banking halls.
A man who identified himself as a staffer of the branch off Hakeem Dickson Road confirmed the alleged attacks, adding that the bank’s branches along the Lekki/Epe area had been asked to shut down. He, however, confirmed that normal operations were going on in other branches in Victoria Island and Ikoyi, a situation that the Nigerian Xpress confirmed when it visited one of the branches on Victoria Island.
