Most road crashes are caused by human error–FRSC

The Ogun Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) on Tuesday said that most of the road accidents across the state were caused by human error.
Clement Oladele, the Ogun Sector Commandant of FRSC, made this known  in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ota, Ogun.
Oladele noted that only few of the road accidents that claimed lives in the state were caused by mechanical fault and other factors, saying that human error contributed to majority of the crashes.
He explained that seven people died, while 36 others sustained various injuries in 21 crashes that occurred during the Eld-el-Fitri-celebration.
Oladele said that FRSC rescued 47 victims, who had no injury during the sallah celebration across the state due to quick response of its personnel.
“I want to reiterate FRSC’s commitment to sensitise the motorists on the importance of safety,  so that crashes could be reduced to the barest minimum,” he said.
The sector commandant advised motorists to be cautious and refrain from wrongful overtaking, to reduce crashes in the state.
Oladele also implored motorists to slow down when getting to construction zones and ensure strict compliance to 50 km per hour speed limit in those areas, to avoid unnecessary loss of lives. (NAN)
