Moro LG youths demand immediate severance from Ilorin Emirate

Wole Adedeji, Ilorin

Youths in Moro‎ Local Government Council of Kwara State are demanding the immediate separation of their community from the IlorIn Emirate.

The youths, under the aegis of League of Moro Youth Liberationists (LMYL), faulted the situation where Moro Local Government, that is Kwara North, is forced to be in Ilorin Emirate which is in Kwara Central.

The LMYL made the demand, in a communiqué, issued and signed by its Chairman, Kolawole Pascal and Secretary, Sodiq Makanjuola, respectively, at the end of the League’s inaugural meeting.

Worse still, the youths questioned the rationale behind the deduction of 5 per cent of the ‎Local Government’s monthly Federal Allocation to the Ilorin Emirate which, it said, negates the rights of the people of the Council to their statutory fund from the Federation Account by way of short-changing them.

The youths also decry the physical  stunting development and ‎progress in the Council while by sinister arrangement, Moro Local Government never benefited from rightful appointments in the state neither were they considered for Federal appointments from  the Federal Level.

‎Above all, the young citizens of Moro council bemoaned the non-grading of traditional rulers in the Council qualify them for the 5 percent of the Federal Allocation alleging that twice the monarchs in Moro had been graded and twice they had been degraded at the instance of Ilorin Emirate.

According to them, such gradings were done in 1983 and 2002, respectively‎.

They therefore demanded for self determination and freedom “from the shackles of oppression that had held our identity down for ages by Ilorin Emirate”.
