More than 50 vaccines trial ongoing for COVID-19 – WHO

The World Health Organisation (WHO) has disclosed that there were more than 50 trials for a vaccine on Coronavirus.

The Country Officer for WHO in Nigeria, Fiona Braka, disclosed this while on Channels Television, on Tuesday.

Braka added that there was also a multi-country trial drug for the virus. The WHO executive also said while there was no vaccine for the disease yet, WHO is fast-tracking the process of producing one.

According to her, WHO currently have over 50 vaccine trials that are in place, trying to work round the clock to fast-track the vaccine development process, as well as continue to keep countries informed of the process.

“When it comes to treatment, we are leading a multi-country clinical trial. So far, 45 countries have signed up for that,” she averred.

Braka added that what is being adopted is a solidarity trial that would test different drugs in four different arms against the normal standard of care WHO is currently implementing.

It was gathered that most of the 174,000 persons who have recovered from the infection did so as a result of a strong immune system and absence of underlying health conditions.
