Militants kill DPO in Bayelsa

Tragedy struck in the early hours of Monday, as gunmen, suspected to be militants, invaded a Police Station in Agudama community in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, killing the Divisional Police Officer and three other officers.

 Sources in the area claimed one of the victims was a pregnant police woman.

It was gathered that the incident took place at about 2:00a.m, a dawn raid which was said to have caught the police officers on duty off guard.

The yet-to-be identified gunmen were said to have carted away rifles and ammunition as well as police uniforms from the station.

Competent sources further said that two other police officers who sustained injuries from gunshot escaped the attack.

Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased DPO and the other victims have been taken to the Federal Medical Centre in Yenagoa, the state capital.

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer of the state Command, Austin Butswat, confirmed the incident, stating that the command was on top of the situation as he assured that the culprits would be fished and brought to book.
