By Daniel Anokwuru

About 40 persons were, on Friday, injured when a teargas canister exploded at Community Secondary School, Oroworoku, in Port Harcourt, River State.
It was learnt that a male student came to school with the canister, he gathered his friends to display the Canister to them. On the process, he mistakenly touched the trigger. Immediately, the canister exploded.

The loud noise and smoke that engulfed the school environment forced everyone to scamper for safety.

An eye witness said some of the students started jumping down from the first floor of the building out of panic.

Confirming the report, River State police spokesman, DSP Nnamani Omoni, said the canister belonged to the student’s late uncle, who was a policeman and that the 17-year-old student decided to take the canister to school.
He added that those who sustained injuries were taken to the hospital for treatment, while the culprit is in police custody.
