Man kills 38-yr-old wife over suspicion of infidelity

A 38-year-old woman, Momudat Sobola, has been stabbed to death by her husband, Sobola Olatunji, following suspicion of infidelity. 

Olatunji, 46, and a worker at Remo North Local Government Area, said his suspicion of his wife for infidelity arose from some  text messages he saw on the deceased’s phone. 

The suspect, who has been married to Momudat for 20 years, said a fight broke out after he confronted the deceased on the matter.

A statement by the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed the arrest of the suspect.

Oyeyemi said the mater was reported by the father of the deceased, Alhaji Ambali Yinusa,  at Owode-Egba Police Division. 

He said, “The suspect was arrested following a complaint by the father of the deceased one Alhaji Ambali Yinusa who reported at Owode-Egba divisional headquarters that his son in-law Sobola Olatunji, had a misunderstanding with his wife Momudat Sobola, which led to a physical fight between them. 

“He stated further that in the process, Sobola Olatunji took a knife and stabbed his wife at the back. Upon the report, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Matthew Ediae, a Chief Superintendent of  Police (CSP), dispatched his detectives to the scene where the suspect was promptly arrested and the victim was quickly rushed to the hospital for treatment. 

“But while the treatment was going on, the victim gave up the ghost. On interrogation, the suspect who claimed to have married to the deceased for 20 years alleged that he suspected his wife to  have been having extra-marital relationship because of some text messages he saw on her phone.

“He stated further that it was when he challenged his late wife about his suspicions that fight broke out between them which eventually led to the death of the mother of three. The corpse of the deceased had been deposited at Olabisi Onabanjo University teaching hospital morgue for autopsy. ”

Oyeyemi said the state’s Commissioner of Police (CP), Mr. Edward Ajogun, has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), for further investigation and prosecution.
