Man develops App to combat Internet fraud

By Tony Iwuoma

A former medical student, Mr. Chinonso Okoye, has designed an application that will put Internet fraudsters out of business.

The application known as ‘The Middle’ was designed by the Anambra State-born software developer, following increasing cases of frauds, especially against those, who make online purchases without receiving the goods they ordered and paid for.

Okoye, who addressed newsmen in Awka, Anambra State capital, disclosed that he abandoned his medical studies at the University of Calabar and veered into the Information Communication Technology (ICT).

According to him, online shops form the easiest means of Internet fraud. He lamented that the development posed a challenge to sincere online shop owners.

“This is mostly very rampant on Instagram where fraudulent people now open online shops to advertise goods, and once they get buyers who make financial transfers to them, they close the account and open another.

“With an App like The Middle, you can successfully transfer money to an online shop owner, and he will be unable to withdraw the money until you have clicked the certify button, after your goods have been delivered to you,” he said.
