Magu’s removal: Ex-Labour leader seeks Buhari’s intervention

A former vice president of the country’s apex labour union, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Isa Tijjani has expressed worry over the dizzying speed at which the immediate past Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ibrahim Magu, was investigated and subsequently suspended over allegations of corruption.

Comrade Tijjani, an alumnus of the prestigious National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPPS), in a statement issued on Thursday, said the circumstance leading to the suspension of Ibrahim Magu, calls for a review of the entire appointees of the Federal Government.

He explained that he is taking it upon himself to write President Muhammadu Buhari, through his Chief of Staff, to be copied to all relevant agencies, demanding for thorough investigation into the matter.

Comrade Tijjani particularly wants the President to order a thorough investigation into the truth or otherwise of all the allegations levelled against the former anti-corruption czar.

“The recent investigation and subsequent removal of Ibrahim Magu as the Acting Chairman of the EFCC calls for a complete review and circumspection of the entire appointees of the government.

“Before now, we have been inundated by corrupt practices by the appointees, resulting into loss of billions.

“We will be forced to write the President through his Chief of Staff and copy relevant authorities in the hope that there will be proper and authentic investigation on these claims.

“We are currently in the process of putting together all the necessary documents,” Comrade Tijjani stated.
