LSETF, Mamamoni sign pact to empower 100 women in Lagos

The Lagos State Employment Trust Fund (LSETF) and Mamamoni have signed a pact to empower about 100 low-income women in Lagos State.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was jointly signed by the partners on Tuesday in Lagos to provide financial literacy, start-up capital and integrate beneficiaries as distributors of Mamamoni’s Levantar Liquid Dish Wash.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Mamamoni is a social enterprise which empowers rural and low-income women with different vocational skills and provides finance for them.

Mrs. Teju Abisoye, Acting Executive Secretary LSETF, said the partnership would assist to uplift many households from poverty, create more employment and improve the financial capability of the start-ups.

Abisoye said LSETF’s mandate seeks to create opportunities for Lagos residents to achieve their business aspirations by providing access to finance and opportunities for them to thrive in their various endeavours.

She said that the Fund would provide the beneficiaries with seed capital and work toward increasing the number of beneficiaries from 100 women to 500 women within the next 12 months.

Abisoye said that the partnership would bridge the huge unemployment gap in the state, enhance skills development and job creation opportunities for many unemployed women.

The Chief Executive Officer, Mamamoni, Nkem Okocha, said the synergy would assist many poor women generate livelihood income to become independent and contribute to the nation’s socio-economic development.

According to her, women are usually the most vulnerable species in the society, saying that if empowered, they would be veritable tool for societal impact.

“Mamamoni’s free training sessions are meant to teach women vocational skills that they can simply build a business around to earn money.

“The vocational skills training is not enough because access to finance is a challenge that often hinders them after the training sessions,’’ she said.

Okocha said that the partnership with LSETF would assist to uplift many women from poverty and become self-reliant. (NAN)
