Legal Aid Council seeks stronger synergy with NYSC

Legal Aid Council (LAC) of Nigeria has sought stronger synergy with National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) toward providing free legal services to indigent Nigerians.

The information is in a statement by Mrs Adenike Adeyemi, the NYSC Director of Press and Public Relations in Abuja on Friday.

He stated that the Director-General of the council, Mr Aliyu Bagudu Abubakar, made the request on Thursday when he paid a courtesy visit to NYSC National Directorate Headquarters in Abuja.

He quoted Abubakar as saying “the council had been assisting the less privileged in the administration of justice across the country since it was established.

“LAC also sends corps lawyers to police divisional areas to offer free legal services to indigent Nigerians, and sensitise the public on their rights.

“We appreciate the long standing relationship between the council and NYSC.”

Abubakar reiterated LAC’s commitment to partner NYSC to ensure the existing partnership became stronger
toward providing free legal services to indigent Nigerians.

The NYSC Director-General, Brig.-Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim, described the NYSC scheme as “a reservoir of knowledge always committed to the ideals of its founding fathers.”

Ibrahim promised that the request by the council would be considered to further enhance the potential
and capacity of corps members. (NAN)
