Lagos police arrest 179 inter-state travellers, impound 43 vehicles

Operatives of the Lagos State Police Command has arrested 179 persons for violating the inter-state non-essential travel restrictions emplaced by the Federal Government.

Recall that the government had ordered the restriction as part of measures to curb the spread of COVID-19.

The arrested persons, it was learnt, were travelling to Abuja, Kogi, Abia and other states of the federation.

A statement by the Command, on Monday, said that the violators were arrested between June 28 and 29, 2020, in various inter-state checkpoints and motor parks in the state.

The statement, signed by the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Bala Elkana, also revealed that 43 commercial bus drivers conveying the arrested persons were arrested.

The statement read, “Forty three vehicles were impounded. The suspects were arraigned in Lagos State Special Offences (Mobile) Court, and were sentenced accordingly.

“The Commissioner of Police Lagos State Command, Hakeem Odumosu, has warned commercial vehicle operators and motor parks against violating interstates movement restriction orders.

“Passengers are also warned against non essential interstates travel.”
