Lagos Police arrest 1,124 robbers, record 243 murder cases in 9 months – CP

Some 1, 124 armed robbers were arrested and 243 murder cases were recorded in Lagos in the past nine months, according to the Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu.

Other activities of the Lagos Police Command within the period includes confiscation of  4,406 vehicles  that plied the BRT Lanes and seizure of 10, 068 motorcycles for flouting the restriction order.

This was revealed by the CP on Wednesday at the 15th Annual Town Hall meeting on security with the governor organised by the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, LSSTF, with the theme ‘ Reconceptualising Safety and Security in Lagos State” held at the Civic Centre , Victoria Island.

While reeling out achievements of the Command between December 2020 and September 2021, Odumosu said of all the 243 murder cases recorded in the period under review, 215 suspected assassins were arrested and charged to court while 1,124 armed robbery suspects were also arrested with 1,034 suspects charged to court.

He said 206 of the robbery cases were foiled while 22 were successful.

The Executive Secretary of LSTTF, Dr. AbduRazaq  Balogun said for the 33,000 police officers in the state to function more properly, the state will need about N99 billion to conveniently kit and equip them.

In the area of cultism, he added that the command  recorded 22 cases of cultism while 390 cultists were arrested.

He further said 206 different arms and 475 assorted ammunition with 168 other dangerous weapons and cudgels were recovered during the period, while 44,029 social miscreants were arrested and charged to court  with punishments ranging from fine, communal service to imprisonment.
