Kuje Council boss tasks parents on child immunisation

The Chairman of Kuje Area Council, FCT, Mr Abdullahi Sabo, has called on parents to cooperate with immunisation officials and avail their children for Oral Polio Vaccination for the prevention of polio in the area.

Sabo gave the appeal during the flag-off of a four-day National Immunisation Plus Days in Kuje on Saturday.

According to him, his administration will ensure that health is given adequate attention, saying that their is need for parents to present their children for immunisation for the prevention of polio.

“In furtherance to the support of the Government toward polio eradication in Nigeria, we will do all that is required to sustain the gains achieved so far.

“Therefore, I am calling on parents to present their children from 0 to 5 years during this four days set aside for polio vaccination campaign,” he said.

He also urged traditional rulers and religious leaders to sensitise their subjects on the need to present their children for immunisation.

Dr Veronica Yama, the council’s Head of Department for Health, said adequate preparations have been made to ensure that every child was immunised in the area.

Mr Azie Emenike, the Assistant Director Scientific Health Promotion Unit of the Council, said that Kuje would be top among the six Area Councils that gives priority to child immunisation in FCT.

Emenike promised that the council would try to achieve 100 per cent coverage by the end of the exercise, adding that they will continue to sensitise parents on the importance of getting their children immunised against polio. (NAN)
