Killer cop, ASP Vandi pleads not guilty to killing lawyer, Bolanle Raheem

Drambi Vandi, the suspended Assistant Superintendent of Police, was , on Monday arraigned before a Lagos State High Court and pleaded not guilty to the murder of Lagos lawyer, Mrs. Raheem Bolanle.

The late Mrs Raheem was allegedly killed by ASP Vandi on Christmas day in 2022 under a bridge in Lekki area of Lagos.

He was arraigned on a one-count charge of murder before the Lagos State High Court, Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS) annex presided by Justice I.O. Harrison.

Following his not guilty plea, the state Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Moyosore Onigbanjo (SAN) informed the court that the prosecution has one witness in court and that the state was ready to commence trial.

Onigbanjo’s request for commencement of trial was not opposed by the defense counsel, Adetokunbo Odutola, who prayed for accelerated hearing.

Thereafter, a police inspector was invited to the witness box.

Led in evidence by the prosecution, Inspector Mathew Ameh explained that his team, including the Defendant, were deployed to Ajah under the bridge where they were conducting a stop and search.

The witness informed the court that his team tried to stop the deceased car, which is an unregistered vehicle, but the driver didn’t stop. He said this made Vandi fired at the car.

The matter has been adjourned until January 25 and 26 for cross-examination and continuation of trial.

Vandi, an Assistant Superintendent of Police attached to the Ajiwe Police Station in Ajah, Lagos State, allegedly shot Bolanle Raheem while she was returning from an outing with her family members on Christmas Day.
