According to Onuoha, “KekeAds believes that the leadership and state task forces should proactively engage the riders and vehicles as they may be the most sustainable social distancing mass transit system we are yet to see in Nigeria, that will help reduce the spread of Covid-19.” Continuing, Onuoha added, “The aim is to train at least 50,000 motor tricycle riders as last-mile caregivers providing them with masks, gloves and disinfectants to use while carrying a single passenger at a time on essential trips and at the same time promote healthcare messages across the nation.”

“Passengers would be limited to using vehicles operated by trained, licensed and security checked riders who will give free transportation to healthcare workers on essential trips and charge a fixed subsidised rate to other key workers requiring transit and limited to a single passenger at a time and at the same time promote healthcare messages across the State.”, He said.

Unveiling the KekeAds #CareGiver model in Owerri, following the launch of the Imo Covid-19 Isolation centre, the Secretary to the Imo State governments task force on Covid-19, Dr. Perry Njoku stated, “The innnovation from KekeAds provides a practical approach to sensitising the public and keeping the State moving in a controlled manner.”

Citing the advantages of the Care Giver vehicle, which comes with hand washing taps, sanitizers, protective screen and audio public enlightenment system, is disinfected after each ride, SA to the Imo State Governor, Mr. Chidi Onyebuchi, further assured the KekeAds team that the governor of Imo State, Senator Hope Uzodinma, had invited creative solutions to mitigating the sufferings Imo citizens from the Covid-19.

“Our governor is a man who leads from the front and would be willing to engage the motor tricycle operators across the rural and possibly urban parts of the State to ensure vital movement of goods and essential workers. Training the operators to deliver care items such as food, medication would ensure they follow international handling standards and ensure hygiene is maintained in their vehicles to provide this service.”, Mr. Onyebuchi stated.

He welcomed the offer of voluntary action from KekeAds and the Imo State Tricycle Owners and Operators Association and promised to cooperate with the organization to promote the laudable initiative and help protect and save Imo residents from the epidemic.
