Keke operator, others escape death as trailer crushes tricycle like egg

Dozen miraculously escaped death Friday afternoon in Ota, Ogun State when an articulated truck with a loaded container fell on a commercial tricycle popularly called Keke Marwa.

Thankfully, there was no casualty at the scene of the accident, which occurred around 3.pm at the ever busy Oju-Ore junction along Ota/Idi Iroko highway’

An okada operator, who simply identified himself as Ramon told our correspondent that, the tricycle involved had a flat tire and the operator had to discharge his passengers before taking the tyre for vulcanizing nearby.

According to him, it was when the operator was bringing back the already vulcanized tyre that he had a loud bang that compelled the people around, shop owners, passers-by and other commercial cycles’ operators scampered for safety.

Ramon attributed the falling of the truck partially to the bad state of the road at that junction, saying, “though, the portion of the road where it fell is a bit better, its falling might have been due to the driver’s attempt at balancing up the trailer after escaping the bad portion that caused it to swing right and left earlier.”

As at the time our correspondent got to the since Saturday morning, the truck was still there on the crushed cycle with no traces of the driver, keke owner and rescue operation team from the agency in charge.

“It is because there was no life involved that the authority has not come to remove it,” a passer-by intoned, stressing that, “if corpses of the lucky passengers were there, they would have done the needful since yesterday.”
