Katsina council earmarks N4.2m to boost water supply

The Zango Local Government Council in Katsina State has earmarked N4.2 million for repairs of boreholes and hand pumps to boost water supply in the area.

Alhaji Nura Usman, the Council Director of Water and Sanitation made this known in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), in Zango on Monday.

He said the amount would be expended on the repairs of 36 boreholes and many number of hand pumps across the ten existing electoral wards in the area.

Usman added that the council has procured submersible pumps, cylinder, iron rod, pipes and other relevant accessories for the immediate repairs of the dilapidated boreholes to ensure constant water supply.

He said the repairs were being handled through direct labour to ensure efficiency and timely completion as well as maintain the quality and standard of the boreholes and hand pumps.

Usman said the repairs would soon be completed as it forms the phase one water supply project of the council, adding; “We would soon embark on the second phase of the project which includes drilling of additional boreholes and pumps.”

He commended the state government and the council chairman, Alhaji Hassan Kawari for the timely and regular release of fund for development project in the area, stressing; “we would reciprocate the gesture through commitment and dedication to duty”.

The Director, therefore, called on the benefiting communities to ensure constant maintenance of the water facilities and report any case of damaged borehole to the council for proper action.

NAN reports that Daura Local Government in the state has recently completed the repairs of  125 boreholes across the eleven electoral wards in the area to promote consumption of safe and clean water.(NAN)
