Kaduna rescues 160 Almajiri

Anthony IwuomaThe  Special Adviser to the Kaduna State Governor on Media and Communication, Muyiwa Adekeye, on Friday disclosed in a statement that the Kaduna State Government COVID-19 Task Force officials have rescued 160 children from unauthorised places.

Adekeye said the victims, including toddlers that cannot identify themselves, are from 13 states of the country, adding, however, that some are from Burkina Faso, Benin Republic and the Niger Republic.

The governor’s media aide reminded interested bodies that there are properly registered schools in the state to implement existing laws, prescribing free and compulsory education of all children.

“The locations in which the children were found were operating in violation of regulations that had ordered the closure of all schools since Dec. 2020,” the statement said.

“By keeping children in unauthorised places, the locations were also in contravention of KDSG land use regulations and inconsistent with the policy of repatriation of almajiri to their states and local governments of origin to continue their education under the care of their parents, and in properly registered and regulated schools.”
