Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia cleared of money-launcdering allegation

Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia was, on Friday, set free by a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos State over money laundering charges brought against her by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia was given clean bill of health by Justice Lewis Allagoa, who discharged the former Federal High Court judge of the allegations, while granting application to quash and dismiss the charges, filed and argued by Olawale Akoni (SAN) counsel to the Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia.

Ofili-Ajumogobia’s leading lawyer, Akoni had earlier urged the court to dismiss the money laundering charge on the strength of an application, sequel to an order of Justice Binta M. Nyako of Abuja Division of the Federal High Court, which he said had quashed all the recommendations made by the National Judicial Council (NJC).

Counsel to the EFCC, Mr. Rotimi Oyedepo, told the court that the EFCC had responded to the application through a counter affidavit.

Ruling on the arguments canvassed by the parties, Justice Allagoa held that: “I have looked at the application. I have also looked into the counter-affidavit of the prosecution, it is not indeed controvert the application.

“I am satisfied that the application has merit, the prayers sought for are hereby granted as prayed”.
