JUST IN: Ex-Imo gov, Rochas Okorocha arrested in Owerri

For forcefully retaking a property confiscated from his wife by the state government, former Governor of Imo State and Senator representing Imo West senatorial zone, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, has been arrested by the police in Owerri.

He was still being detained as at press time, The Nigerian Xpress has learnt.
While details of the arrest are still sketchy, The Nigerian Xpress gathered Okorocha is currently held at the state CID.
The alleged charge is that the former is in trouble allegedly for personally supervising the destruction and vandalism of security vehicles and breaking into the property of Imo State government.

The former Governor, Sunday afternoon, allegedly led armed persons to break into, and retake, the property of the state government.
The property at the centre of the faceoff is
the Royal Palm Estate in Owerri, which was sealed by the State Government on Friday.
The estate is said to belong to his wife, Nkechi, and a confrontation eventually ensued between Okorocha’s loyalists on one hand and agents of the state government as well as loyalists of Governor Hope Uzodinma on the other.
