JUST IN: Dozens killed as heavy rain causes multiple accident on Lagos-Benin Expressway

It was a horrific sight along the Lagos-Benin Expressway, on Sunday, as dozens of passengers heading to Lagos lost their lives in an early morning accident caused by heavy rain on the expressway.

A police officer, attached to Anti-Cult Unit of Edo State Police Command, who came to rescue the victims, was also killed by another vehicle that lost control in the midst of the commotion, while his colleagues were seriously injured.
Our reporter, who witnessed the accident, said it happened around 10:00am.

It was reported that an articulated vehicle belonging to Dangote group had lost control on the Expressway, owing to the heavy downpour. Other vehicles following the truck also lost control.

Our reporter counted about 17 commuter buses, belonging to different companies that were involved in the accident, including about six private cars.
As of the time of filling this report, is was only policemen from Anti-Cult Unit, Edo State Police Command that were on ground. They were seen looking for the riffle of their dead colleague, while efforts were being made to rescue those trapped in some of the vehicles.
