JUST IN: Court compels INEC to delist Rivers Accord Party guber candidate from election

Blessing Okorite, Port Harcourt

A Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has made a Mandatory Order to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise Mr. Precious Baridoo as the Accord Party’s governorship candidate in Rivers State against Chief Dumu Lulu-Briggs who has been campaigning and recognised by the Commission.
In a 4-hour judgement delivered, on Thursday, by Justice E. A Obile, the court noted that the National Working Committee of Accord Party lacks jurisdiction to substitute the plaintiff (Baridoo) for the 1st Defendant (Lulu-Briggs) after he was duly elected in the state primaries which held on October 4, 2018, while Lulu-Briggs was still an aspirant of the All Progressives Congress in the state.
