Over 2,000 members of pro-Biafra Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) group, stormed Nnewi as early as 4:30a.m, on Thursday, armed with dangerous weapons, and attacking innocent citizens .
No less than 15 persons, including a clergy, were attacked, according to eyewitnesses. Some of the victims were said to be going to Morning Mass and some others returning from vigil when they were attacked.
Vehicles attacked that early morning were a Toyota saloon car, CL 163 BEN and the occupants, who were said to be seriously wounded, abandoned their travelling bags in the smashed car.
Other vehicles attacked were a patrol van said to belong to the operatives of the NDLEA with Registration No: ANAMBRA AWK 750 BF whose occupants were not seen at the scene when our correspondent visited and a commercial bus smashed, all at NITEL Junction, Nnewi.
A joint patrol team of the police, army and civil defence operatives later took over the commercial city.
